Vernadine Angel

Vernadine (Stevens) Angel, 80, passed away on August 29, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving and devoted children who cared for her until she went home to be with the Lord.

Vernadine was born on July 11, 1946, in Scopus, Missouri, to Pinkney and Eula Stevens.  Vernadine and J.W. Beard were united in marriage on April 5, 1963. During their marriage, they had four children before his passing in 1983.   On June 25, 1994, Vernadine and Ray Angel were married in Marble Hill, Missouri. 

In addition to being a wife and a mother, Vernadine held various jobs throughout the years. From being a waitress in several restaurants locally to being a seamstress sewing hats and drapes.  She always found a way to help contribute to support her family.  The last fifteen years of her working career was spent at Rubbermaid (formerly known as Lee/Rowan & Newell Rubbermaid) in Jackson, Missouri.

Vernadine was a woman who deeply loved her family and found great joy in bringing people together.  She loved her children dearly and always had a special place in her heart for their friends as well, often welcoming them as if they were her own.  Family dinners and holidays were especially important to her and some of the family’s most cherished memories.  Her home was often filled with far more family and friends than could ever fit around the kitchen table.  Vernadine would not have had it any other wayand always found room to accommodate everyone.

Vernadine enjoyed many things in life but especially loved gardening, canning and baking.  If she was not in the garden, tending to her roses or in the kitchen, you would find her sitting in her rocker chair coloring pictures on her I-pad or watching one of her favorite television shows.  She was a faithful watcher of the St. Louis Cardinals cheering on Yadier Molina and Adam Wainright up until their retirement.  Vernadine had a special appreciation for wildlife particularly hummingbirds and cardinals. Just like her family, her birds never went hungry. When visiting her home, you never had to worry about trying to find the time.  Every room had a unique musical clock that she personally selected and had each clock set in intervals so she could listen to each one at the top of the hour.

Vernadine is survived by her children, Lisa Myer of Marble Hill, Missouri; Linda (Glen) Williams of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Evelyn Fox of Marble Hill, Missouri; and Rodney (Janice) Beard of Jackson, Missouri.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason (Misty) Smith of Advance, Missouri; Jamie (David) Reando of DeSoto, Missouri; Kyle Howard of Jackson, Missouri; Kallee Howard of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Michael (Caitlyn) Fox of Marble Hill, Missouri; Rick Lee of Jackson, Missouri; David Lee of Jackson, Missouri; Michael Lee of Phoenix, Arizona; and Brian Lee of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; as well as twelve great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Vernadine is also survived by her sisters, Brenda (Tim) Lincoln of Marble Hill, Missouri and Viola (Tim) Wilkinson of Marble Hill, Missouri; special friends, Debbie (Jeff) Lincoln, Charity Little and Diane Starkey; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Vernadine also formed special bonds and friendships over the last couple of years with the weekly visits of her granddaughter’s customers. 

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Pinkney and Eula Stevens; her first husband, J.W. Beard; her second husband, Ray Angel; her sisters, Lela Maxine Todd, Vana Beard and Shirley Bollinger; her brothers, Marion Stevens, Leroy Stevens and David Stevens; her son-in-law, Michael “Tiny” Fox; her grandson, Nathan Fox; and one great-great granddaughter.

Funeral Services will be held at Pendergrass Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Missouri with Monty Jones officiating.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.  On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, visitation will be 8:30am until 10:00am with the service to follow.  Burial service will be at Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Stevens, DeWayne Howard, Richard Beard, Randy Ratcliff, Steven Kell and Tommy Moore.  Honorary pallbearer will be James Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks the memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Vernadine’s memory, a charity that had been close to her heart for many years.

Vernadine will be remembered for her loving heart, her willingness to help others, and the importance she placed on family.  Her love will live on through the many generations of family she leaves behind and through the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
